The UNRWA director discusses with the governor of Damascus the efforts to rehabilitation

The Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Syria, Amani Michael-Ebi, discussed with the Governor of Damascus, Engineer Mohammad Tariq Kreshani, ways to enhance cooperation and coordinate efforts to ensure the continued safe return of displaced persons to their homes in Yarmouk Camp, in addition to rehabilitating the infrastructure.

The meeting addressed the reality of essential services in the camp, including schools, health and service centers, as well as water, sewage, and electricity networks and transportation means. Joint efforts between the Damascus Governorate and UNRWA were discussed to facilitate the return of residents to their homes, adhering to construction safety standards and required approvals.

Engineer Kreshani affirmed the Governorate's commitment to providing all forms of support and facilitation for the agency's work in the fields of relief, education, and health, highlighting the importance of cooperation with international organizations, NGOs, and the local community in the infrastructure rehabilitation process according to specified priorities.

As part of improving services in the camp, Kreshani directed the follow-up on requests for increasing transportation means and bread distribution agencies, in addition to  removing  damaged cars left in the camp, in coordination with the relevant authorities in UNRWA and the Yarmouk Services Department.

For his part, Michael-Ebi expressed his gratitude to the Syrian government for the facilities and support it provides to UNRWA's work in Yarmouk Camp and other areas in Damascus and Syria, noting the increase in the number of residents returning to their homes in the camp. He explained that work is currently underway to rehabilitate a new school to be opened next year, in addition to rehabilitating the community development center and several houses."
