On the brink of the abyss.. Palestinians in Syria in Lebanon: continuous displacement and a search for safety.

Fayez Abu Eid | Task Force

Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon are experiencing severe humanitarian suffering amid the dangerous Israeli escalation and ongoing bombardment, especially those who have been displaced from the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon to other towns and cities in Lebanon. They are struggling to find a safe shelter, in addition to the noticeable absence of organizations and relevant authorities to take care of their affairs, which has exacerbated their tragedy and increased their suffering.
Palestinians from Syria in Lebanon, who fled the horrors of the war in Syria, found themselves facing another war in Lebanon, living its bitterness in the war's nutcracker. A large number of them cannot return to Syria for fear of arrest and security pursuit, while others have lost everything they own due to the shelling that destroyed their homes and turned them into rubble, let alone the deteriorating economic conditions in Syria and the lack of a decent life for them.
With the escalation of tensions and the unprecedented heavy and intense shelling that Lebanon has witnessed in the southern suburbs of Beirut and various regions, particularly Baalbek and the Bekaa Valley, fears are growing about the possibility of an expansion of confrontations and the Israeli occupation forces launching a ground invasion of Lebanon. If this occurs, the humanitarian consequences could be dire for all Lebanese and Palestinian civilians, leading to a further deterioration of their already disasterous humanitarian conditions, making them feel abandoned to their fate, forcing them to live in tragic circumstances with no solutions in sight.
According to UNRWA's database, 89% of Palestinian refugees from Syria in Lebanon live below the poverty line, and 95% of them lack food security. More than 90% of Syrian Palestinian refugees in Lebanon rely on cash assistance provided by UNRWA as their main source of income.
In the midst of this escalating humanitarian tragedy, Palestinians in Syria are appealing to the international community to stop this war and to secure safe humanitarian corridors for them. They are also calling on UNRWA and humanitarian organizations to provide support, as there is an urgent need for safe shelter, food, and medical assistance, in addition to the necessity of finding sustainable solutions for their complex legal and humanitarian situation.
The story of the Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon is a reminder of the tragedy of an entire people who have suffered from the horrors of land occupation, displacement all over the world, and repeated experiences of  migration, all while feeling a lack of stability and security. They hold onto the hope of returning to their usurped homeland and living there with dignity and peace of mind.
