The Khan Dannun Palestinian refugee camp i Damascus countryside has witnessed a new humanitarian disaster, as five young men in their thirties and forties have died in recent days due to the exacerbation of chronic diseases, a result of the neglect by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in providing them with necessary healthcare.
The reporter of the Working Group in the camp confirmed that most of the victims were suffering from serious illnesses, and they had submitted detailed medical reports to UNRWA calling for urgent surgeries. However, the agency's doctors refused to provide treatment on the grounds of high costs.
The reporter of the Working Group stated that the number of patients suffering from chronic diseases in the camp exceeds 25, and they face a similar fate due to the lack of medications and neglect in providing healthcare.
The camp residents issued an urgent distress call to UNRWA, demanding that it fulfill its humanitarian responsibility and provide the necessary healthcare for its patients, especially since serious diseases like cancer and hepatitis are spreading alarmingly in the camp.
Khan Dannun camp suffers from a severe shortage of basic services and deteriorating health conditions, threatening the lives of thousands of Palestinian refugees living there.
