The Action group is participating in a meeting to discuss updates on programs and institutions related to victims and the missing people.

Action Group – London

The action group participated today, Thursday, November 14, 2024, in the meeting held by the Independent Institution for the Missing Persons in Syria under the United Nations, with the aim of informing human rights institutions about the latest developments related to programs, institutional updates, and its work progress, and listening to their opinions, suggestions, and recommendations.

The meeting held via Zoom, attended by many Syrian human rights associations and organizations, discussed the forms and means of support provided to victims, survivors, and the families of the missing, and the importance of working to uncover the fate of all detainees in Syria.

The UN organization also highlighted the tasks and responsibilities of the independent institution concerned with the missing persons in Syria, and the importance of the active participation of victims, survivors, and families in decision-making and guiding the institution's work, with the aim of providing the families of the victims with sufficient knowledge about the independent institution, managing their expectations, and amplifying their voices, which will increase the chances of achieving the desired progress in this matter.

The International Commission on Missing Persons is a treaty-based international governmental organization based in The Hague, Netherlands. Its mission is to secure the cooperation of governments and others in locating persons missing due to conflicts, human rights violations, disasters, organized crime, irregular migration, and other reasons, and to assist them in doing so. It is exclusively mandated to work on the issue of missing persons.
