The Action Group | Turkey
The Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria, represented by its Director Fayez Abu Eid, participated in a consultative meeting organized by the Fidar Association on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul. The meeting was attended by a number of Palestinian and Syrian refugees residing in the area, with the aim of discussing their opinions and suggestions, reviewing their problems and orientations regarding returning to their homes and properties in Syria, in addition to their vision for the next stage after the fall of the Assad regime. Fayez Abu Eid spoke about the conditions of Palestinian refugees in the countries surrounding Syria, and the conditions of Palestinians inside Syria, highlighting the destruction inflicted on Palestinian camps as a result of the bombing carried out by the Syrian regime forces. He also provided statistics regarding the number of detainees and those released, and the number of victims who fell during the period of the Syrian regime. In turn, Ibrahim Al-Ali, Director General of the Fidar Association, reviewed at the beginning of the meeting the suffering of the Syrian and Palestinian peoples during the war that broke out in 2011, which claimed the lives of a large number of victims and resulted in the arrest of tens of thousands, in addition to the violations they were subjected to. The meeting, which included about 25 participants, witnessed a difference in opinions about returning to Syria. The attendees were pided between those who supported the return and others who rejected the idea due to the loss of ties with Syria as a result of the death or migration of their family members. While some expressed their willingness to return, expressing their concerns about the challenges related to financial costs, the destruction of homes, and the lack of job opportunities. Recommendations of the meeting:
1. Providing financial support to families wishing to return to Syria, including covering travel costs.
2. 2. Providing assistance for the reconstruction and restoration of destroyed homes.
3. Addressing the legal problems facing Syrian Palestinians in Turkey.
4. Demanding the Turkish state to exempt Syrian Palestinians from forced return decisions.
5. Establishing a solidarity fund to support families who decide to stay in Turkey.
6. Facilitating the return of Syrian Palestinians who hold Palestinian Authority passports.
7. Conduct a comprehensive census of Palestinian Syrians in Turkey to accurately determine their needs.
8. Strengthen partnership with institutions to rebuild and reconstruct Syria..
9. Provide logistical support to Palestinian Syrians in the Esenyurt region and the rest of the Turkish states.
10. Demand the opening of a representative office for UNRWA in Turkey to provide its services to Palestinian Syrians. The meeting stressed the importance of cooperation and consultation between the relevant parties to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian Syrians and support them in facing challenges, whether in Turkey or in the event of their return to Syria.
