Tension in Hama’s Returnees Camp: Protests, Demands for Justice and Accountability

Action Group | Hama

The Returnees Camp in Hama is witnessing escalating tension following calls for demonstrations in front of the headquarters of Palestinian organizations loyal to the regime.

In recent developments, a call for a protest in front of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s office in the camp was attributed to a sheikh. However, he denied the claims, stressing that such allegations aim to incite discord and destabilize the camp.

For its part, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement condemning these “provocative calls,” reaffirming its firm stance of non-interference in internal affairs and denying any involvement in acts of violence against Syrians or Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the camp has witnessed a series of protests in recent days, with demonstrators demanding the closure of pro-regime organization headquarters and accountability for those involved in the arrest and killing of camp residents. The situation escalated when protesters attempted to set fire to the headquarters of the “Jerusalem Brigade,” with some young men and children throwing firecrackers at the building—an act of defiance against what they see as “a symbol of oppression and a killing machine.”

Public Security Forces intervened after a verbal altercation erupted between protesters and relatives of the Jerusalem Brigade’s leader. Both parties were taken to the police headquarters, where orders were issued preventing the leader’s relatives from leaving Hama and instructing them to remain in their homes.

Calls continue within the camp for justice and accountability against those responsible for the bloodshed, amid a tense atmosphere reflecting growing public anger towards the actions of pro-regime organizations.
