The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command announces the appointment of assistant secretaries-general amid widespread controversy

Action Group | Damascus

The Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command announced, after amending Article (57) of the internal regulations, the election of Anwar Raja as assistant secretary-general, and Ramez Mustafa as assistant secretary-general.
The Front confirmed in its statement that the decision will go into effect immediately upon its announcement, noting that any text that contradicts its content will be cancelled.
This decision sparked widespread resentment among the residents of Yarmouk Camp, as many of them considered that the Popular Front - General Command bears direct responsibility for the siege that the camp was subjected to, which caused great human suffering that included hunger, killing, and destruction.
Some activists also called for the dissolution of the faction, considering that it played a role in dragging the camp into the conflict, which led to the arrest and killing of many of its youth.
Direct accusations were directed at Anwar Raja for being the 'planner and mastermind' of the siege and violations that took place in the camp, pointing to his pro-regime positions during the factions' meeting in 2012, when public opinion inside the camp was leaning towards neutrality.
In light of these developments, calls have escalated to remove the Popular Front - General Command from the Palestinian scene, amid accusations that it played a negative role in the crisis witnessed in Yarmouk Camp, which was one of the largest Palestinian gatherings in Syria before it was subjected to siege and destruction.
