Situation of Palestinian Refugees in Daraa Camp Exacerbated by Sewage Disposal

Palestinians taking refuge in Daraa Camp, south of Syria, have lashed out at the local authorities for dragging their feet over the residents’ appeals for rehabilitating infrastructure and sanitation networks.

The residents said the poor sanitation networks and improper sewage disposal, which they attributed to the frequent blackouts and maintenance works in the area, have brought about an acute damage on their health and property.

The displaced families warned of the life-threatening diseases wrought by poisonous rodents and unpleasant smells stemming from contaminated sewage, saying waste water continues to flow into their refugee camp around the clock.

The families continue to urge the local authorities and relief institutions, namely UNRWA, to make urgent steps in order to rinse out waste water and enhance hygiene in the area.
