The Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria has issued its new report titled “The General Scene of the Palestinians of Syria in 2024,” addressing various issues concerning the Palestinians of Syria throughout the year.
The report highlights that 2024 was an exceptional year, marked by significant events that heavily impacted the Palestinians of Syria. Chief among these was the Israeli war on Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, which led to the displacement and homelessness of thousands, along with numerous casualties. Another pivotal event was the fall of the Syrian regime and the escape of the ousted president following the Syrian opposition’s takeover of power.
In addition to these major developments, the report sheds light on the continued displacement of thousands from their homes and the increasing emigration from Syria even before the regime’s fall. This was driven by widespread poverty, reliance on humanitarian aid, the deterioration of moral and social values in regime-controlled areas, security restrictions, and legal instability both in Syria and in the countries of displacement and asylum.
Through twelve chapters, the report provides an in-depth review of the key developments affecting the Palestinians of Syria. The Action Group aims to inform decision-makers, as well as Palestinian, Arab, Islamic, and international institutions, about their ongoing plight. The report urges these entities to take responsibility, enhance their response to the dire humanitarian conditions, improve aid efforts, and ensure both physical and legal protection for Palestinian refugees, recognizing them as a repeatedly displaced population.
As a human rights organization, the Action Group for the Palestinians of Syria continues its mission of documenting violations and key events affecting Palestinian refugees in Syria since 2012. This report is part of a series of studies aimed at preserving historical records of Palestinian displacement and preparing necessary legal documents to defend their rights in international and legal forums.
