Action Group Welcomes the Establishment of Syria’s National Authority for the Missing and Calls for Cooperation

London | Action Group

The Action Group expresses its deep appreciation for the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 19 of 2025, which establishes the “National Authority for the Missing” in Syria.

We view this important development as a positive step toward addressing a deeply humanitarian issue and fulfilling the hopes of thousands of families who have long suffered the pain of losing their loved ones.

The establishment of an independent national body tasked with searching for and revealing the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, documenting these cases, creating a comprehensive national database, and providing legal and humanitarian support to families, represents official acknowledgment of the scale of this tragedy and a meaningful step toward alleviating its impact.

At the Action Group, we believe that this authority—if given the appropriate conditions and necessary support—can play a pivotal role in ending the uncertainty surrounding the fate of thousands of Palestinian and Syrian refugees, and in delivering long-awaited answers to their families.

We call on all relevant parties, both inside and outside Syria, to adopt a spirit of constructive cooperation and to provide all possible support to the National Authority for the Missing. Its success is a shared responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of the Syrian government, civil society, international organizations, and the families of the victims themselves.

The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria stands ready to contribute to the file of missing Palestinians and to support the success of the Authority’s mission. We emphasize the importance of ongoing dialogue and communication among all stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We view the creation of the National Authority for the Missing as a genuine opportunity to support the families of the missing and a fundamental step toward redress and building a more just and stable future for Syria.
