The Action Group condemns the reduction of UNRWA aid to Palestinians from Syria in Lebanon and warns of its repercussions

Beirut | Action Group

The Action Group for Palestinians from Syria condemns UNRWA's decision to reduce financial aid allocated to Palestinian Syrians in Lebanon, disbursing only one month's dues instead of the usual four months (from May to August).

The group believes this decision represents unacceptable pressure on this vulnerable group, pushing them to return to Syria under difficult and inhumane living conditions. The majority of these refugees are residents of the Yarmouk camp in Damascus, which was destroyed, and their homes are either completely destroyed or in need of urgent repair.

The majority of these refugees are from the Yarmouk camp in Damascus, which has been devastated, and their homes are either completely destroyed or in urgent need of repair.

With the continued absence of any clear or safe international plan for the return of people to Syria, this decision exacerbates their suffering, which extends beyond displacement to include complex legal and livelihood crises in Lebanon.

Accordingly, The Action Group calls on UNRWA to reverse its decision and fully reimburse its financial dues, commensurate with the scale of the humanitarian crisis.

We call on the agency and the international community to shoulder their responsibilities and work diligently to improve the difficult living conditions of Syrian Palestinians in Lebanon.

The Action Group calls on the international community to develop an emergency plan to restore and rehabilitate Yarmouk, Daraa, and Handarat camps, and to provide a safe and dignified housing environment for displaced Palestinians.

The Action Group emphasizes that humanitarian assistance is not a tool for political pressure, but rather a fundamental right of displaced persons and refugees, and must be preserved until a safe and dignified return is achieved.
