The Syrian Ministry of Justice reiterated its warning against circulating leaked documents and photos related to detainees, emphasizing that the uncontrolled dissemination of such material could infringe upon the rights of victims and exacerbate the suffering of their families. The Ministry also noted that some parties might exploit this material for illicit purposes.

It stated that any documents, photos, or data pertaining to victims of human rights violations should be submitted exclusively to the relevant authorities, whether within the Ministry of Justice or the Public Prosecutor's Office, in order to protect the privacy of victims and prevent the misuse of information in ways that could harm them.

The Ministry added that it will take legal action against anyone who violates regulations or misuses this material in a manner detrimental to cases related to victims, while expressing its readiness to cooperate with entities working on justice-related matters.

The Ministry's statement came days after the publication of an investigative report that presented more than 134,000 Syrian intelligence documents and over 33,000 photos, in addition to data concerning at least 150,000 inpiduals who were subjected to arrest or enforced disappearance during the rule of ousted President Bashar al-Assad. The investigation revealed the scale and scope of the violations, sparking widespread reactions both locally and internationally.

In the same vein, the Independent Foundation for Missing Persons in Syria stated that it is following up on the findings of the investigation, emphasizing that all data undergoes rigorous verification and analysis before any conclusions are adopted, and that much of the material requires additional information to reach reliable conclusions.

The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria points out that some of the victims included in the documents and photographs are Palestinian refugees from Syria who were subjected to arrest and enforced disappearance in recent years, adding another dimension to the impact of these leaks on the families of the missing within the Palestinian community in Syria.
