Action Group - Syria
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria, in statements by its director Fayez Abu Eid to Al Jazeera, condemned the abduction of Palestinian-Syrian refugee Mohammed Mohsen Ahmed from the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria by Israeli occupation forces, considering the incident a crime of enforced disappearance and a flagrant violation of international law.
Abu Eid explained that an Israeli force stormed the village of Umm al-Luqs in the Quneitra countryside on February 5th, abducted the refugee Mohammed Mohsen (45 years old), and took him to an unknown location, without disclosing the reasons for his arrest, his place of detention, or his health status to this day.
The group's director pointed out that the detainee is a simple civilian who works harvesting olives and collecting scrap metal to support his three children and his family, who are living in dire humanitarian conditions, stressing that he has no record of any political or military activity or affiliation with any faction.
International demands and actions: In a press statement referenced by Abu Eid, the group demanded the immediate disclosure of Mohsen's fate and that his grieving family, who had previously lost four sons, be allowed to communicate with him.
They also called on the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene urgently to stop these violations, monitor the humanitarian situation in the region, and curb what they described as "Israel's tyranny and its lust for killing and arresting civilians."
Context of arrests in southern Syria
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria revealed, in numerical terms, the escalating Israeli violations in southern Syria, with more than 40 Syrian Detainees currently held in Israeli prisons. These arrests are spread across villages in Quneitra (Jubata al-Khashab, al-Asbah, Umm al-Luqs, and Saida al-Jawlan).
Regarding Palestinian refugees, the group documented five recent arrests in southern Syria, including those of Amer, Malek, and Samer al-Ahmad, who were arrested last July and later released. This indicates a continued Israeli pattern of targeting civilians in these areas.
Abu Eid concluded his statement by conveying the plea of the detainee's grieving mother, placing the international community and countries that champion human rights before their moral and legal responsibilities regarding the war crimes committed by the occupation. He questioned the absence of a real international voice in the face of these ongoing attacks on Syrian territory.
