Beirut. Palestinian Syrians stage a sit-in outside UNRWA headquarters to protest service cuts.

Beirut - Action Group

A large group of Palestinian refugees displaced from Syria to Lebanon staged a massive sit-in in front of the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Beirut, expressing their anger at their deteriorating living conditions and the agency's policies towards them.

The protesters raised banners condemning what they described as arbitrary policies and categorically rejecting the policy of increasingly limited services and aid. They emphasized that these measures jeopardize the lives of thousands of displaced families amidst a crippling economic crisis gripping Lebanon and exacerbating the already harsh burdens of displacement.

The protesters called on UNRWA to take immediate action and fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities by addressing the following demands:

• Improving basic services: Raising the quality of healthcare, education, and relief provided to all refugees without exception.
• Providing regular and consistent financial assistance to Palestinians from Syria to cope with the exorbitant cost of living.
• Abandoning the policy of 'palliative measures' and working to find effective and sustainable relief solutions that guarantee the dignity of refugees.

These field actions come to highlight the forgotten suffering of a group facing complex circumstances between the bitterness of displacement from Syria and the reality of economic collapse in Lebanon, which puts UNRWA to a real test of its principles in protecting and providing relief to Palestinian refugees.
